This is the scary one! Worried about how AI is going to take over the world and take our jobs? Fearful of connecting our brains to computers? Will we all be cyborgs living in a computer controlled world in the future (or perhaps are we already)? Worried or thrilled about the prospect, join our Surrey Scientists to get the low down.

The Power of the Mind: How brain-computer interfaces can shape our future and what you can do to help Elizaveta Ivanova (PhD Student) Are thoughts materialistic? With the rise of virtual reality gadgets and the first brain chip, the once-distant prospect of brain-computer interfaces is now closer than ever. But how exactly does it work and why is it so important? Join me to explore the latest research in non-invasive brain-computer interfaces to see what a human brain can do with the sheer power of thinking.

... A Year in AI – What’s All the Fuss? Dr Andrew Rogoyski (Director of Innovation and Partnerships at the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI) Andrew will give an overview on what has been happening in AI since the launch of ChatGPT, talking about how recent advances are changing our everyday lives but also how many long-term ambitions for AI still remain unanswered. The talk is designed to give people an understanding of what AI actually is (and isn’t), how it might impact our work, social and home lives, and how it might develop in the coming months and years.
