In A Study In Scarlet, Dr Watson’s search for lodgings leads to an introduction with Sherlock Holmes – and so begins the most popular detective partnership in history! They are summoned by Scotland Yard after the discovery of a dead man in an empty house - with the word ‘REVENGE’ written beside him in blood. But whose is the wedding ring that lies beneath the body, and how is the affair connected to a pair of wealthy Americans who have recently arrived in the capital?
Sherlock Holmes detects in John Douglas’s violent death, the hand of the criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty… but how could the murderer arrive at Birlstone House undetected, when it is entirely surrounded by a moat? And what part has the scheming Mrs Douglas played in this diabolical affair? Before the case is solved, the moat must give up its secrets, and the Douglases face the full force of “the Napoleon of crime”.
