We are supporting families across the borough with food parcels to help tackle holiday hunger this Christmas.
Cllr Julia McShane, Lead Councillor for the Community says:
“Supporting our residents is our top priority and we are continuing to help those in need. We understand how challenging this year has been for many families and we are working with Foodwise and Mandira’s Kitchen to store and deliver their generous donations of meals to families who need support with food over the Christmas Holidays from 18 December to 4 January. We are really grateful to be working with both Foodwise and Madira’s Kitchen to help families in need. This work highlights the community spirit we have seen this year from our residents and local businesses.
“We are also delighted to be distributing vouchers from the Guildford Lions to help families over Christmas, and grateful to other organisations such as Stoke Community Support, North Guildford Foodbank, Salvation Army Foodbank and others who continue to support residents in their communities.”
Cllr McShane adds: “Our Community Wellbeing team work with Community Services to co-ordinate the provision of food parcels for those who need them as well as packages of pre-loved items from our Thrive at the Hive non-profit community project. Details can be found on their Facebook and Instagram pages. If you are worried about how you will feed your children during the Christmas holidays, please get in touch by calling 01483 444150 or emailing Community.Wellbeing@guildford.gov.uk.”
Surrey County Council recently completed a form by Marcus Rashford MBE, which gathers all information on what services local authorities across the UK are offering to help hunger over the Christmas period.
Throughout the pandemic, we have been helping our residents with food parcels and picking up their prescriptions. Our Community Helpline is available over the Christmas holidays for anyone who needs help with food parcels, picking up prescriptions or somebody to talk to on 01483 444400. The helpline will be closed on Thursday 24, Friday 25 and Monday 28 December and Friday 1 January.
