Enjoy courses, talks, visits and more with The Guildford Institute’s new spring brochure!

The Guildford Institute, an independent educational charity, has launched its spring brochure for the local community and beyond. With nearly 80 activities on offer, ranging from courses and talks, to visits and events, it’s set to be another jam-packed term. Coinciding with a number of anniversaries in 2023, the Institute will celebrate innovation and exploration with a variety of events based around the focus of Journeys and Discoveries.

The Institute’s focus events will range from learning about the achievements of Surrey scientists, to the travels of explorers and boundary-pushing artists. Find out about innovation close to home with Surrey’s Space Programme, celebrate the London Underground’s 160th anniversary through poetry or venture further afield and explore the traditional custom of The Grand Tour as a journey of discovery through Europe.

This spring, the Institute will continue to offer a wide range of activities, with 66 courses, 7 talks, 3 visits and 1 special event to choose from. Delve into the world of art history with an evening lecture on artist William Morris, enjoy a bespoke private tour of Abbot’s Hospital or hear an afternoon talk on world-famous fashion designer Coco Chanel.

Following on from the departure of the Institute’s long-standing tenant, The Royal Bank of Scotland, in March 2022, combined with the impact of Covid-19, it is now facing a significant financial impact. Please help the Institute continue its long tradition of offering educational opportunities to the local community by taking part in its spring programme.

Institute Manager, Amy Rice, says: “This term, we are excited to offer a unique take on our focus of Journeys and Discoveries, encompassing a wide range of achievements, disciplines and subjects. Like many other small charities, we are facing challenges as a result of the wider economic circumstances within which we all find ourselves. A great way to support us is by booking on to our spring programme of activities – we would be hugely grateful and hope it will bring you enjoyment too!”

This term’s brochure cover, Six Feathers, is by photographer and printmaker Lisa Howard. Using the oldest form of cameraless photography, her cyanotype prints capture a moment in time impossible to replicate.

The spring term will run from 4 January – 5 April 2023. Advance booking for all Institute activities is essential.
