
Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life limiting conditions and their families. Our bespoke support is free of charge and available 365 days of the year. The supplementary support to our paid staff that our volunteers offer ensures the best experience for our supported families. The hospice recognises and values the unique contribution volunteers make.
Role purpose This Volunteer role is required to assist the Manager with the day to day running of the SSCH shops. The role requires enthusiasm and to be a team player. Working in the shopsnis vital to the fundraising of the charity, it can also be fun and great way to make friends andnlearn new skills.
Duties and key responsibilities
- Processing and pricing donations
- Making customers feel welcome, with a greeting, a smile and a thank you, even if they haven’t purchased anything.
- Exceptional customer service in these tricky times will help to make SSCH shops stand out and reassure our customers we are a safe and happy place to shop
- We encourage you to wear a face mask, but this is not a legal requirement. If you are, please try and smile and get eye contact and welcome our customers.
- Operating the till – Once you are trained and happy to do so.
- Please wipe POS down regularly with disposable wipes
- Assisting with displays
- Steaming and displaying clothing – we recommend you use gloves, and if possible open the back door to ensure a flow of air
- Housekeeping of shop – regular cleaning, and wiping down of surfaces and displays, rails etc. Occasional hoovering and mopping.
Essential Skills and experience
- Customer focused.
- Energetic and proactive
- Ability to get on with people and work in a team.
- A good dose of common sense
- Mondays to Sundays either in the morning, afternoons or across the lunch period – availability to be chatted through with manager at interview.
