85% of Mathnasium Students Meet or Improve on Predicted GCSE Grades

As new research highlights a lack of confidence with numbers across the UK, maths education specialist Mathnasium has confirmed that 85% of its students met or improved on their predicted GCSE grades this year, with 50% improving by a grade or more compared to their prediction.

Mathnasium, which has centres across the UK, including in Guildford, develops bespoke learning plans following assessment, and this tailored approach has helped many pupils bridge the grade gap.

For Year 11 students taking their GCSEs this year, 45% of Mathnasium students achieved Grade 7+ compared with 22% nationally. Further, 63% of students predicted to fail went on to pass with Mathnasium.

When it came to supporting those resitting GCSEs, Mathnasium UK students achieved a 69% pass rate compared to 15% nationally, with 22% improving by two or more grades compared to their prediction.

Sharon Mc Veigh, Centre Director at Mathnasium of Guildford, commented:

The supplementary maths tuition we provide, aligned with the National Curriculum, helps children in our community achieve better grades at school. I’d like to congratulate Mathnasium students across the UK for their fantastic results. We only opened in Guildford in June, but we are already supporting a range of academic levels, including those who need to catch up and many who are working ahead.

Our Summer Maths Programme was really well received over the holidays, with the majority of students choosing to stay with us beyond the summer. September can mean going back to school with a bump, so the new term is a great time to address any summer learning loss and to take a fresh approach to maths.

Mathnasium of Guildford, located at 4 London Road, will hold its official Grand Opening on Saturday 3 October, attended by The Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Jane Tyson. Everyone is welcome between 12pm and 2pm. There will be a short ribbon-cutting ceremony with a few words from The Mayor, followed by fun maths games and activities for children, with prizes, refreshments and cake. The open day will also give families the opportunity to meet the team, find out more about Mathnasium and how we can support their child, and book a free maths assessment.

Sharon Mc Veigh continued:

At Mathnasium, our bespoke learning plans help students build the right skills, whether that’s mastering fractions, algebra or geometry. As understanding grows, students also develop confidence, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Our proven system, delivered by our experienced instructors in a welcoming, friendly environment, is specifically designed to help students make progress, and our UK-wide numbers demonstrate the success of our student-centred approach.

Mathnasium in Numbers • 94% of parents across Mathnasium’s centres report an improvement in their child’s maths skills and understanding. • During July and August this year alone, 50,395 student sessions were delivered across the Mathnasium UK network and 25,031 topics were mastered by Mathnasium students, building important skills for the new school year. • 1,666 first assessments were completed, giving new families a clear breakdown of their child’s strengths and gaps, and what needs to be worked on. Mathnasium provides bespoke maths tuition for children of all abilities. Programmes are built around the Mathnasium Method™, a proven approach that focuses on developing deep understanding rather than memorisation, helping students strengthen core skills and build long-term confidence in maths.
