Jo Malone London

As we are in Earth Month, Jo Malone London are excited to highlight our Refillable Townhouse Diffusers throughout this month. Their Townhouse Diffusers are crafted in porcelain and hand-finished in the UK. Enjoy the scent for up to four months, then replenish with diffuser refills. The craftsmanship of their products means they can have a life beyond their original intended one. Their constant strive to be more sustainable, encourages the reuse of everything from their candles to their creme pots, because when it comes to associating empties with the bin, they take a different view.

Rituals

As a B Corp-certified brand, Rituals are pleased to announce an offer for consumers to celebrate their commitment towards sustainability. At the moment, they offer refills for their body creams, fragrance sticks, car perfumes, handwashes, day and night creams and serums. By choosing one of their refills instead of purchasing a brand-new product, consumers are helping reduce packaging, which means less waste. For every refill sold, they plan, protect or restore a tree in collaboration with their partners.

During Earth Week, consumers can get 20% off on all refills from 22nd April to 28th April 2024.

Bravissimo Bra Recycling Scheme LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO DONATE OLD BRAS? Having a bra-drobe refresh? Why not head into any one of Bravissimo's UK shops to browse new bras to feel good in, and you can pop your old bras in their bra recycling bins (you can feel good about that too!).

It’s easy to recycle your bras and swimwear with Bravissimo. All you need to do is bring your old or unwanted bras or swimwear in to one of their shops (it doesn’t matter what brand they are or what condition they’re in – honestly!) and put them in their bra recycling bins (or dump the old one you’ve been wearing while you treat yourself to a new one!). The bigger the bra the better! _ For every kg they receive, they make a donation to Women's Aid!_

Independent businesses paving the way...

Biddles of Guildford

Stationery doesn't have to cost the Earth! Biddles made a decision to cut plastic waste back in the 90’s- where possible they would not take pen stock on blister cards. They have always offered a range of recycled alternatives. Back in the 90’s they displayed 5 metres of recycled products priced at the same price as their non recycled equivalent. In early 2000’s they started a Printer cartridge recycling scheme, and they offer a small discount off replacement cartridges. This still continues to this day- they recycle 200+ cartridges a month, cartridges that would have otherwise ended up in landfill. They have a biodegradable additive in their carrier bags and have recently started on a programme switching from fluorescent tube lighting to LED lighting. Along with this they had individual thermostats fitted to their heating units, allowing us to heat individual zones

Julia Lampard Salon

"Fashion fades. Style and elegance are eternal" - Julia Lampard

At Julia Lampard Hair Salon, they use luxury, natural hair care products to beautify your hair. They are taking urgent action on climate change and have set goals for sustainability. They look to partner with organisations that share their values and respect for the environment. They use luxury and sustainable products by Davines, that contain naturally derived ingredients that will enrich and enliven your hair, ensuring maximum results.

They collaborate with local businesses through the Surrey Hills Enterprise scheme. They reduce waste and eliminate single use plastics, as well as arrange the safe disposal of waste products such as aprons, gloves and foils. They opt for using paraben and ammonia free products and utilise recyclable foils for applying colour.

Their mission as a salon is to create a sustainable salon to support local people and the wider environment. They want to become a benchmark for how to run and manage a sustainable business.
Kerrera Craft Beer and Gin Bar

Kerrera uses German and Belgian bottles that come in crates with deposits that get returned when sent back. This stops them not only going to landfill but to other recycle schemes that might not be able to use them or process them. The crates and bottles are sent back to the brewers to be cleaned and refilled for a complete system. Even some of their gin bottles they can send back to their suppliers to be refilled, and some have even been made into glasses.

All of their kegged beers are also economical as they are in returnable kegs containing around 50-80 pints per keg that get sent back to the brewers to be refilled. Everything else is either in bottles or cans so there is nothing plastic used.
Art & Grind

Art & Grind keep their carbon footprint as low as possible by using local vendors for all of their food and beverage ingredients including local independent bakers, locally roasted espresso beans, and milk products

All of their raw ingredients including hot chocolate, chai and espresso beans are Fairtrade and responsibly sourced. They offer their used coffee grounds for anyone who would like to add a boost of nitrogen in their soil. Their packaging (including for their espresso beans) is all recycled, their cups and lids are biodegradable and from recycled materials. Their espresso machine is top of the line in efficiency boasting a 27% reduction through thermal energy recovery and 8% less water.
Leader's Office

Not only the Leading property experts! Leaders have recently had the launch of their brand new sustainable office in Guildford! A few things that make their office sustainable are:

  • All of their furniture is either recycled or upcycled
  • They fuel their office on 100% renewable energy fuels
  • 100% FSC–certified wood was used in the office
  • Their carpet is made from 65% recycled materials
- They plant a tree for every move!
Sandfield Primary School

Last September, Sandfield Primary School had a Living Wall installed. This is one of the first living gates to be installed in the UK. Plants have been specifically chosen to act as a barrier to pollutants. The living gate completes the green wall, with their ivy screening around the car park and the artificial ivy screening at the front of the school. Scientists from the University of Surrey have been monitoring the pollution levels and its impact to reduce them.
