A look at Guildford in this period in more depth than is possible on the Guildford Story walk. There is much to discover about the town and the castle, where wicked King John stayed nineteen times. We hear about a warrior king who was actually in love with his wife and the forgotten invasion of 1216 when the castle was surrendered to the French.
Imagine what it was like for the townsfolk to be brought before the Guildhall Court for selling watered down wine or underweight loaves. Walk down the town’s oldest street and learn how Guildford became a hub for the wool trade. Experience the Undercroft with its tuns of wine and meet a thirteenth century merchant dressed in Guildford Blue.
