With her captivating debut album, Cormorant, Nat Brookes has created an enchanting collection of mostly self-penned dance tunes delivered in an intimate and engaging setting. Featuring intricate and inventive arrangements, Nat’s album bridges the gap between genres. Inspired by traditional British and European dance music, Cormorant borrows from classical and film music to stretch the boundaries of these dance tunes to create exciting and fresh tracks.

For her album launch tour, Nat, on accordion, will be joined by Deb Chalmers on fiddles (Stepling, Folk Dance Remixed), Sam Partridge on flute (Pons Aelius, The Rachel Hamer Band and artistic director of the National Youth Folk Ensemble) and Tom Evans on guitar (Understory, Climax Ceilidh Band).

What to expect: Music inspired by the driving grooves of British folk and the twisting flow of European balfolk from bands such as Leveret, Boldwood and Blowzabella. Nat Brookes’ ensemble plays a beguiling mix of jigs, three-two hornpipes, mazurkas and more. Underlining the togetherness of this group, they will perform in the round. This promises to be a very special evening of the most wonderful instrumental music.

‘Brookes has found notes that resonate with the heart and soul, providing an entryway into tunes that serve the mind and the dancefloor.’ Bob Fish, Folk Radio UK

Folk Inspiration aims to give a platform to outstanding new talent. 100% of ticket and CD sales from this concert will go to the artists.

About Nat Brookes

Nat is an accordionist, caller, composer and arranger. Nat drew on her experience arranging music for string quartets and orchestras to create an intricate and alluring album of jigs, mazurkas, hornpipes and schottisches, arranged for accordion, fiddle, flute and guitar.

Growing up in the countryside on the Suffolk / Norfolk border, Nat envisioned a career composing music for film and television. During her time studying in York, Nat’s enthusiasm for folk music became a passion and an interest in music for dance was sparked.
