During Victoria’s reign, from 1837 to 1901, there were huge changes within the town – especially after the arrival of the railway.

Description: Theme walk – history
► This will be a leisurely walk, visiting the Castle grounds, where you will see the Pleasure Gardens designed by the Borough Surveyor and Architect of the time, Henry Peak. You’ll also see the home of Lewis Carroll, Holy Trinity Church – scene of the Guy Riots – and the main streets of the town centre, to view the important Victorian buildings which still remain.

Meeting place:
► Tunsgate Arch, High Street (opposite the Guildhall).
